About Me

About Me

I’m Carlos Vargas Matiz, a Colombian filmmaker and photographer based in Miami, FL, with over a decade of experience in visual storytelling. I hold a Master of Arts in Filmmaking from Leeds Beckett University in the United Kingdom, and my career has spanned directing, cinematography, camerawork, editing, and photography across short films, commercials, documentaries, and branded content.

My passion for storytelling, paired with a deep knowledge of cameras and light, allows me to create narratives that move audiences—evoking emotion, sparking thought, and leaving a lasting impression. I’m skilled with a wide range of tools, from DSLRs like the Canon 7D/5D/1D, Sony F1/F11, and Panasonic GH5 to large-format systems such as Blackmagic and RED Scarlet/Dragon, along with their full workflows. Beyond production, I bring strong expertise in script development, editing, color, sound, studio lighting, and 2D animation.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with clients such as Semana Magazine, Avianca Airlines, Findeter, Juan Valdez Coffee, Burger King, Margaritaville, Karisma, Virgin Voyage, and Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts, among many others. A key milestone in my journey was being awarded a scholarship from the New York Film Academy South Beach for my showreel, an honor that inspired my move to Miami to continue building my path as a director.

Creative, proactive, and collaborative, I’m equally at home leading teams or working side by side with them. Every project is an opportunity to grow and refine my craft, and I remain committed to pushing my work further—driven by the belief that film has the power to connect us in profound ways.
